Diagnosis of Annular Pancreas Using Minimum Intensity Projection of Multidetector Row CT: Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده
the pancreas in which a section of pancreatic tissue completely or partially encircles the second portion of duodenum, and the anatomical anomaly frequently results in varying degrees of duodenal obstruction (1). About half of all patients with annular pancreas present with their initial symptoms in adulthood (2). Symptomatic cases should be surgically treated, but the diagnosis of annular pancreas is usually made by the endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). However, ERCP is an invasive method and it can fail at times due to the inability to pass the endoscope to a point required for cannulation (3). Recently developed multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT) and the parallel improvements in the capabilities of the workstations allow for the high quality minimum intensity projection (MinIP) technique, and this provides detailed information on the pancreatic ductal anatomy (4). We present here a case of annular pancreas and its aberrant pancreatic duct that was clearly shown on MDCT using the MinIP images.

An Unusual Presentation of Annular Pancreas: A Case Report
Abstract Annular pancreas (AP) is a rare congenital malformation resulting from failure of pancreas ventral anlage rotation with the duodenum. This leads to a ring of pancreatic tissue that envelops the duodenum. Clinical manifestations of AP most commonly develop in infancy or early childhood but can present at any age. The diagnosis of AP, usually suggested by an upper GI series or abdominal ...

CONTEXT Although rare, a pancreatic arteriovenous malformation can have serious consequences. A diagnosis of arteriovenous malformation requires evidence of aberrant communication between the arterial and the venous systems. This report describes a case where the use of multi-detector row CT and specific post-processing methods provided a diagnosis of arteriovenous malformation. This minimally ...
متن کاملUsing multidetector row computed tomography to diagnose and stage pancreatic carcinoma: the problems and the possibilities.
The sensitivity of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of pancreatic neoplasms and accurate tumor staging has significantly been improved by the use of thin-section multi-detector row CT techniques. Greater table speed, improved tube cooling, high resolution imaging and the possibility of isotropic voxels have led to optimal multiplanar reconstruction in any arbitrary plane and particular...

CONTEXT PEComas (tumors showing perivascular epithelioid cell differentiation) of the pancreas are exceedingly rare. CASE REPORT We herein report on a 60-year-old female who noticed a bulge in her right upper quadrant while exercising. Subsequent multidetector-row CT scan showed a 3.5 cm well-defined, encapsulated, hypovascular, solid tumor in the body of the pancreas. Endoscopic ultrasound d...

However, a small portion of cystic lymphangiomas have been reported in various regions of the abdomen including the stomach, jejunum, colon, pancreas, and the mesentery (1-3). Among them, cystic lymphangiomas of the stomach are considered very rare. In effect, fewer than 50 cases have been reported in...
